When you're out hiking, and get up on top of a mountain, you can see all around, see your destination, see the landscape between here and there, see the best route. Then when you get down along the route and you're down in some arroyo and it's deep and dark with steep walls, can't get out, only go forward, don't rechoose your goal at that point. Continue on to the goal you planned when you could see everything. Down in the dumps the view is limited and deceptive. It may be necessary to replan the fine details of the route but pick your goals while up on top.
